The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze has won the coveted Canadian Car of the Year award, at the Canadian International Auto Show, as voted on by the AJAC journalists. The Cruze was up against a tough list of competitors, but with its long list of standard features, top safety rating and its incredible performance and handling, it comes as no surprise to GM Canada, or most of the AJAC journalists.
"The Chevrolet Cruze is a vehicle that has done quite well overseas. In Europe and Asia, it's a best-seller, so I don't think it's a big shock that it won this award." - Globe and Mail Auto columnist Petrina Gentile
"The Cruze was our opportunity to say for the first time in a long time that we're going to create the best car that serves our customers best," "We want to show people we're back by creating the world's best cars, not just the world's best trucks." - GM Canada President and Managing Director, Kevin Williams
Seventy of Canada's top automotive writers vote on the award. The AJAC journalists meet every October for TestFest at the Niagara Drive Center at the Niagara District Airport, in Ontario. The annual event allows journalists to compare completely new or redeveloped models back to back over a 4 day period. The vehicles are driven on a road route, race track and there is even an off road section for the trucks. They look at actual driving performance, vehicle specifications and features, and evaluate qualities such as interior roominess and handling ability. With 70 of Canada’s top automotive journalists and a strict scoring process, the AJAC Canadian Car of the Year awards are highly respected across North America.
